DF65 Build & Fix Session – Notice to all SYC Members
In a few weeks, groundhogs will already be sniffing for signs of spring, and so will sailors of radio-controlled sailboats. On the Saturday immediately following Groundhog Day, Sarnia Yacht Club members of the DragonForce 65 (DF65)* radio-controlled yacht fleet will be holding a “Build and Fix” event at the SYC Clubhouse.
SYC Members and their guests are invited to bring their DF65 yacht, to the DF65 BUILD & FIX session at the SYC Clubhouse starting at 9:30 am, Saturday, February 3rd, 2024. This will be an all-day collaborative session, starting at 9:30 am for general set-up.
- bring your old boat or your new kit
- bring your tools and parts
- bring your own lunch, snacks, non-alcoholic beverage
- build, fix, upgrade, maintain or fine-tune your boat
- check-out other boats and swap tips
- ask for help and lend a hand to others
There will be some basic building supplies on hand, and all are encouraged to bring any surplus bits and pieces to share or swap.
Useful tools to remember include: needle nose pliers, Phillips and flat-head mini screw driver, boxcutter/scalpel and cutting-board, tweezers/forceps (for tying tiny knots), metric Allen keys, ruler/tape measure showing millimetres.
Boat owners, find and inspect your boat. There is still time to order replacement parts you may need!
See event Poster below. For further details, questions or suggestions about this event, or to be included in other DF65 fleet communications, contact Brian Rea (reahouston519@gmail.com) or Race Director, Kelly Boston (kbechard@gmail.com).
*Note: The DragonForce 65 is a closed class one design RC Sailboat. About 2 feet long (65cm), they are fast, efficient and point well. The rigs are just as tuneable as those on full-sized boats, and in some ways even more so. Adjustable fittings for vang, downhaul, outhaul, mast stays and sheets allow these yachts to be tuned to match weather conditions. Its design would be equivalent to a 40’ boat with a 60’ mast, 20’ draft, but only 7 ½ ’ beam.
