SYC Entrance
The Dredge Crew has worked diligently this year making possible 2022 SYC boating experiences. Their work may not be noticed, but it should be appreciated by all SYC members.
Please remember when using the SYC entrance, to stay on the nautical range of 184 degrees.
Respect SYC #15 rule: “Boats coming into the Entrance Channel from the lake have the right of way over those leaving the basin”.
The Day Shift leaves the dock at 7 am to set up the equipment and they work until 1 pm. At this time, the Afternoon Crew arrives and they continue to work until 7 pm. We dredge in all weather conditions except North winds. We are unable to proceed under these conditions as our equipment is not designed to handle significant wave action.
Our dredging permit is active from April 15th to May 15th and if necessary we can resume dredging July 15th until October 31st.
This Spring, the weather allowed us to dredge seventeen out of a possible thirty days.
Did you know we have six to seven members on each dredging shift with many others on a spare list? In total over thirty members help to accomplish our much needed dredging. My thanks go out to each and every one of these dedicated members.
The Dredge Crew would like to thank all the members who provided many cookies, muffins, brownies, spaghetti, pizzas, lasagna, chili, soup, sandwiches, and casseroles. Thanks, Lori Guggisberg, Kim & Ross Grant, Phyllis Clement, Bonnie Chesher, Amber Elliot, Janet Scott, Jim Bennett, Shelly Mallon, Sue Auty, Marj Beaton, Greg Moon, Barry Ryan and anyone else that I may have missed. You are the people that help make our Club so special. When it is 2 degrees out on the barge, a coffee and some sweets really hit the spot.
When we dredge we try to obtain a minimum depth of 3 metres (10 ft.). This year when we started, we had a 1.5 metre sand bar across our entrance. Our crew and equipment worked extremely well.
Have a safe & fun boating season!
